Project Experience

Twin Arrows Resort and Casino

Alton was Project Manager and Engineer of Record, providing site infrastructure development for this 200,000 sq. ft. casino and hotel resort located on approximately 84 acres, about 20 miles east of Flagstaff. Scope of Services included preparing site grading and drainage plans, driveway entry improvements, water and sewer distribution lines and paving and striping plans. This project required extensive project coordination including weekly design meetings and conference calls. Stormwater management design incorporated surface runoff structures including curb and gutter, valley gutter, drainage swales with three detention basins. To minimize trenching and material costs, underground stormdrain structures were minimized and limited to areas near the drainage basin outfalls away from the casino and hotel. To obtain LEED Stormwater Quality credits, the parking lot medians were utilized for the construction of bio swales which collects stormwater runoff and provides infiltration to separate pollutants generated from the parking lot. This project is currently under construction with anticipated completion by Spring of 2013.

Hualapai Cultural Center, Peach Springs, AZ

Alton was Project Manager and Engineer of Record, responsible for preparing construction drawings for a 5,200 square feet, 2-story Cultural Center for the Hualapai Nation to be located on approximately 1.9 acres in Peach Springs, Arizona. Infrastructure improvements included grading and drainage design for a parking lot with sidewalks and low water crossing, utility layout and coordination. Construction was completed in March 2010.

City of Flagstaff Aquaplex, Flagstaff, AZ

Alton was Project Manager and Engineer of Record, responsible for preparing construction plans for the infrastructure improvements for a proposed approximately 51,000 square, foot two-story recreational building. Onsite improvements included grading and drainage of an asphalt concrete paved parking lot, storm drain system, an underground and above ground detention basin and site utilities and coordination. Offsite public improvements included a right turn lane in Fourth Street and Industrial Drive, water main extension to serve a fire hydrant, sidewalk and ramps and new entrance driveways. The new right turn lanes and entry driveways required re-striping Forth Street and Industrial Drive. A majority of the site consisted of shallow basalt bedrock which became a grading and drainage design challenge. To address this challenge, the parking lot was designed to match the natural contours as much as possible by creating rows of tiered parking and utilizing the landscape medians to compensate grade change. By adhering to the natural slopes, existing ponderosa pine trees were conserved. Surface drainage techniques were utilized to minimize rock trenching costs by minimizing subsurface improvements such as catch basins and stormdrain. Construction was completed in summer 2008.
